Working With Movers? Make Sure You Tackle These To-Dos First

Hiring movers can be a great move (pun intended!). Working with the right moving company can make the entire moving process easier, faster, more efficient, and less stressful.

But your movers can only do their job if you do yours. A recent article from Realtor.com outlined a few oft-forgotten steps people need to take before the movers arrive to ensure the process goes smoothly, including:

  • Create a clear pathway. In order for your movers to get in, move your things, and get out quickly (and safely!) they need a clear path. If they’re trying to navigate around boxes, toys, and other debris on the floor, not only will it make the moving process take longer, but it can also present a safety hazard. Make sure you create a clear pathway throughout your home, out the door, and to the moving truck.
  • Give the movers a heads up about your floors. Moving large furniture can scrape hardwood floors. So, if you have hardwood flooring in your current or new home, make sure to let the movers know so they can take the necessary steps to protect your floors (and keep scrape marks at bay).
  • Hire a pet sitter for moving day. There is going to be a lot going on in your home on moving day; movers are going to be coming in and out, furniture is going to be moved, and it can be a bit chaotic. This environment can make it easy for your pet to slip out unnoticed (the door will be open, after all!)—so, if you have a pet, make sure you hire a sitter and get them out of the house (and out of the movers’ way) on moving day.

Bottom line? Movers are a great resource—but if you want the moving process to go as quickly and smoothly as possible, you need to take the proper steps to set the movers up for success.
